Science tells us that life is better if you are beautiful. You’re healthier, more persuasive, and people will generally think you are smart and trustworthy.

One of the pointers to become more attractive is to keep those teeth pearly white. A study confirmed that a white and evenly spaced set of teeth make people seem more attractive. They are sign of health and good genetics.

So, it is only natural for most people wanting to have white teeth. White teeth have the effect of increasing confidence level and attractiveness level.

What Causes Our Teeth To Become Yellow?
  • Smoking – Tobacco, Nicotine
  • Dark Coloured Drinks – Coffee, Tea ,cola, Red Wine, Carrots, Oranges
  • Not Taking Good Care Of Your Teeth
  • Aging – Routine Wear And Tear, Thinning Enamel, Stain Accumulation
  • Thinning Enamel – Acidic Food, Citrus Food, Vinegar
What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening lighten teeth colour and help to remove stains and discolouration. It can greatly improve how your teeth look. Whitening is not a one-time procedure. It will need to be repeated from time to time if you want to maintain the brighter colour.

How Does Teeth Whitening Works?

Pigments from our food and beverages (and nicotine from cigarette, for smokers) will get absorbed into our teeth. The peroxide in the whitening gel releases oxygen ions in our teeth and these ions chemically alter the stains and eliminate them. However, our teeth will continue to absorb stains. So, teeth whitening of any kind are not a treatment that has a permanent effect.

How To Maintain White Teeth

Whitening is not a permanent solution. The stains will come back especially if you smoke or consume a lot of staining food or drinks. You may see the whiteness start to fade in as little as 1 month. If you avoid the sources of staining, you may not need another whitening treatment for 6 to 12 months. Whitening needs maintenance or touch ups for prolonged effect.

To extend the longevity of newly whitened teeth:-
– Maintenance whitening / touch up as infrequently as once a year
– Avoid dark coloured food and beverages
– Whenever possible, sipping dark coloured beverages with a straw
– Practice excellent oral hygiene – brushing and flossing with the help of whitening toothpaste

Teeth Whitening And Frustration

Teeth whitening results are subjective, varying considerably from person to person. Every patients have different results and results varies depends on the response of your teeth to the whitening agent. You can’t compare one celebrity white teeth to your own post treatment white teeth. It depends on the thickness of your enamel, your dentine colour, basically your own gene. This is why some people get very white bright teeth after treatment but some only little improvement in the shade of their teeth.

It is common that some clients are frustrated with the teeth whitening result. This is because they have really high expectations that their teeth will become super white after only one session. Please bear in mind that most Hollywood smiles are not the result of teeth whitening, they are mostly porcelain veneers. And please note that most of the pictures that you see in the internet are mostly edited/ enhanced.

Now that we got that out of the picture, we can set your mind to be realistic about the results. Let me give you one example or comparison.

Say for instance you want to have whiter brighter skin, what do you do?
You seek advice from an aesthetic doctor, and they advise you for some treatment, does the result come immediately? No. You might have to do a few sets of treatment, packages etc., right? And after your skin become whiter, what are the homes cares that you need to do? Whitening products, whitening home care, sun block, monthly maintenance etc. right? And you can’t expect your skin to be as fair as some celebrity that is endorsing the products.

Same goes with the teeth whitening. You might need a few treatments to get the result that u desired. Home care such as whitening tooth paste, regular maintenance, scaling polishing and touch up are required. You can’t expect your teeth to be as white as the next person. If you are eating coloured food, drinking coffee n tea, you can’t expect the result to last. Sun exposure causes your skin to tanned/ darkened. So is tea and coffee, they have direct effect on your enamel. So keep in mind that results varies and it is not a permanent effect.

The entire process takes about 1 hour, consisting of three 20 minutes cycles. And you may or may not feel sharp and tingling pain that comes and goes, which can last for about 12 hours. What is beauty without a little pain?

I have always wished that teeth whitening were more affordable so that it is accessible to most people. Most of us wish we had whiter and brighter teeth but the main issue is the cost of whitening.
